Just two days before i hooked up with the Dinan M6, the crew at ec assembled a few Mk V GTIs, you know, for kicks. As editor, I  can "call" photoshoots whenever I want and no one at the office can protest. Plus, being outside, on a great road , is better than the best day in the office.

anyway, i digress. I wanted to compare the difference between the 600+hp Dinan M6 and the 400+hp GIAC VW   GTI.
Yeah, there's more that 150K difference between the two but they both make incredible power, in very different ways.
The big block M6 is the posterboy for the "no replacement for displacement" bunch. Its power is always there ,ready to unleash ginormous (gigantic+enormous) clouds of tire smoke. The Dinan M6 is exceptionally easy to drive fast...that was the idea.
On the other hand, the GIAC GTI took skill (and big brass balls) to do the same thing. Essentially, nothing really happens until 3400rpm....it just kinda puts along like a stock Golf. However, when the turbo spools up, it does so like a grenade....this thing simply explodes with power, big, sexy buckets of torque. The trick is keeping the turbo spooled, magic guys like Hans Stuck perform with left-foot braking and clutch dancing.
I don't think you could find two cars further apart.
And yet I find both incredibly hot.
