We spec'ed out our TDI with DSG in Laser Blue with Anthracite interior. The Laser is actually a little lighter than were expecting. Similar to Blue Lagoon, it looks rather nice on the car especially with the dark interior. White was considered, but with the relatively sedate body lines of the MK5 Jetta, we thought it would look a little too generic. Over the weekend, we saw an average of about 40mpg in a mixture of driving. On the first press launch, we saw almost 45mpg, but that was with extreme conservation measures. We expect the Jetta to be the most fuel efficient vehicle we have ever had in our fleet. We aren't big fans of hybrid technology, Hydrogen is still a long ways off, electric vehicles just aren't that feasible, so that pretty much leaves clean diesel as the way to go right now. Don't worry, we haven't given up on being enthusiasts. we have a full plan in place for some performance modifications for the Jetta. After driving the Jetta TDI Cup Cars a few weeks ago, I left with a master plan that will turn our fuel miser into a handling meister. Stay tuned, this could be the most exciting long-term/project car we have done yet. This one will even be environmentally friendly.
