With gas prices back in check, VW North America just announced their intention to bring the VW Polo across the pond to us, although no date has been confirmed as of yet. The new VW Polo is rumored to be unveiled in March at the Geneva Auto Show. Let’s hope it comes to North America as a 2010 model arriving in this fall. In my opinion, this is a great move by VW because gas prices WILL be going back up whether we like it or not in the next 12 months, mark my words! Also, the Polo will fit nicely into the current North American sub compact sector, competing with the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit. I just drove the current model VW Polo with the standard 1.4L 80 bhp four-banger for two weeks on the challenging, tight, twisty roads of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. I must say, I haven’t had so much fun in small car since I owned a Mk1 Rabbit/Golf, and I achieved over 40 mpg to boot. Fun, small, nimble, high quality, and safe - ABS and air bags, what more do you really need in a commuter car?
