Racing regulations change every year in an effort to keep the playing field as competitive and as advanced as possible. So today, Mclaren-Mercedes unveiled their latest F1 race car, the MP4-28.
Along with the debut of their new dynamic teardrop F1 car, the festivities were kicked off by a parade of McLarens most successful racing machines. First up was Bruce McLaren’s M8D CanAm, followed by several F1 cars including Fittipaldi’s 1974 M23, Ayrton Senna’s 1988 MP4/4, McLaren F1-GTR 1995 Le Mans winner, Mika Hakkinen’s MP4-13, Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 MP4-23, and finally followed in by Sergio Perez in a new 12C Spyder and Jenson Button in the new XP Prototype.
The famous camouflaged XP prototype (P1 test mule) drove across the stage in its first public driving display. Yes, the fifteen-minute video complete with driver impressions on the upcoming season can be taxing, but there are some moments where the host gives mention to a new feature about the P1. Particularly the electric aspect of the car, “Listen to the electric reverse motor…silence, beautiful.” proving the car will have a hybrid drivetrain.
If anyone in attendance of the press conference happened to snap a few photos of Jenson emerging from the XP and has some decent interior shot, SEND THEM OVER!
